Ph.D. program details

The program consists of 2 components (study and research) and is concluded with the
defence of your dissertation. The study component includes some required and optional  courses (history and  philosophy of science,  Russian, innovation management in the sphere of science and technology, etc.) and a number of special subjects in  the field of your choice.

Entrance Examinations

As stipulated by the Regulations "On the training of research and teaching personnel in the system of post-university professional education in the Russian Federation", the following entrance examinations should be passed by all those applying for the studies in Ph.D. programs:

  1. philosophy
  2. special  discipline in the  relevant field  of science
  3. the language required for preparing your dissertation (Ph.D. thesis).

These examinations are held in accordance with the State educational standards for higher professional education in Russia.

Examination results are valid for one year.  You are not permitted to re-sit an exam that you have passed (or failed).

Ph.D. programs are individually tailored for each student.  The study plan in your field and the research component should be coordinated with your scientific supervisor and approved by the decision of the respective department. 

All instruction at the University is in Russian. You should be able to demonstrate a sufficiently good knowledge of Russian, since your Ph.D. dissertation should be presented in Russian; your candidate's examinations will also be taken in Russian. 

An additional Russian language program is available if required and requested.

The  final state certification of  postgraduate students is carried out  in the form of  "Candidate examinations " in a foreign ( Russian)  language, history and philosophy of the relevant science and in special  disciplines.      

PERIOD OF STUDY IN  PH.D. PROGRAMS: 3 years full time (normally)

TUITION FEE FOR PH.D. PROGRAMS:  $ 3000 - $3500 a year depending on your speciality  (to be specified in your correspondence with the University )

Please note  that the tuition fee does not include the cost of  accommodation, medical insurance policy (USD 120-150 per year), the cost of issuing the letter of invitation for you (approx. USD 50 including  postage) and other expenses connected with your stay in the Russian Federation.
